What Do You Eat on our Tag-Along Tours?

“I have to admit, when we booked the tour, I was a little anxious.

We’re a group of four girlfriends, and out of all of us, I’m definitely the least picky when it comes to food. One of us is vegetarian, and another is very selective with what she eats.

After days of road-tripping up the East Coast to finally reach Hervey Bay, we were honestly a bit over our classic “one-pot meals” that we’d been surviving on.

So the food situation on the tour definitely crossed our minds.

We tried to calm our nerves (and excitement) and got an early night before the tour.”

Tip #1: Don’t show up with an empty stomach!

Check-in at the office is usually around 7:00–7:15 AM, and the ferry departs at 9:00 AM, so you won’t have a proper chance to eat or drink anything until then.

Luckily, we had a quick coffee and snack before heading over, which gave us the energy to stay focused during the fun and informative safety briefing and the intro to the 4WD vehicles.

Once on the ferry (a 45-minute ride to K’gari), we were relieved to find it fully stocked: coffee, tea, toasties, cold drinks… you name it. Perfect timing for a second breakfast.

???? First Lunch = Burrito Heaven

After driving across the island and arriving at our accommodation, we were greeted with a very pleasant surprise: burritos!

There was lettuce, capsicum, red onion, jalapeños, an amazing sauce, and even vegetarian options.

Plus corn chips to scoop up whatever was left on your plate. We were sold. With a first meal like that, we knew this tour was going to be next-level.

???? Snack Game Strong

Throughout the tour, the guides regularly checked in to see if anyone wanted snacks (which varied daily): cookies, apples, muesli bars, and more.

And when we returned to the house after long days exploring, the lovely volunteers had biscuits and complimentary tea and coffee ready for everyone.

???? Dinners That Hit the Spot

Each night, the volunteers cooked hot dinners for the group.

The first night we had Teriyaki Fish Stir Fry, with Hokkien noodles and garlic bread on the side (yes please!).

The second night we had Thai Red Chicken curry and rice, then to top off the day we had Neapolitan ice-cream and chocolate wafers for dessert.

There were also vegetarian options for each meal and if you are vegan, lactose free or gluten free these are all catered for with a small upgrade fee

???? Breakfast Goals

In the morning, breakfast was waiting: fruit, yogurt, bread, spreads, coffee, tea, peanut butter, jam and a BBQ hotplate to toast your bread.

Who could ask for more?

???? Second Lunch = Epic Wraps (last meal for 2 Day Tour)

Our second lunch featured DIY wraps packed with everything imaginable: salads, couscous, cheese, ham, a variety of sauces…plus lamingtons!!! Even falafels for the vegetarians ????

Everyone was happily full and many went back for seconds!

???? Evening Treats (3 Day Tour continues…)

Once again, back at the house, there was always boiling water ready for tea and coffee, and more biscuits to wind down the day.

The volunteers also had a jug of fruit cordial in the fridge to quench your thirst after a hot day at the beach ????

???? Final Breakfast = Pancake Party

By day three, breakfast got a serious upgrade: a pancake feast shared with people who already felt like family.

???? Last Lunch = Focaccia Sandwiches

The final lunch was something out of a café menu: focaccia sandwiches with hummus & mediterranean chickpea salad with salami.

Yet another winning meal.

???? BYO Vibes

You’re totally welcome (and encouraged!) to bring your own snacks and drinks, alcoholic or not.

While there are a couple of stops at the Eurong general store, there’s nothing better than chilling at the house with some nibbles and a drink while waiting for dinner and swapping stories with new friends.

➡️ Pro tip: Bring cans instead of glass bottles, help keep K’gari safe and clean!

All in all, our experience with Fraser Dingo 4WD Adventures couldn’t have been better! And the food definitely didn’t disappoint.

We came for the island adventure, and we got way more than we expected????????????
